Bai Tu Long Bay offers the same majestic limestone karst scenery as its famous neighbor, Ha Long Bay, but with a fraction of the tourists. Located just northeast of the main UNESCO site, this hidden gem remains a pristine sanctuary where emerald waters meet towering rock formations. Cruising here means sailing through a protected national park where the silence is broken only by the sound of oars and birdsong. Experience authentic local life at floating fishing villages, explore untouched caves like Thien Canh Son without the crowds, and kayak through secluded lagoons. It is the perfect choice for travelers seeking tranquility, nature, and a deeper connection with Vietnam's seascape.

Real experiences from real travelers
We debated between Ha Long and Bai Tu Long, and I am SO glad we chose this. We saw maybe 3 other boats the entire time. The scenery is identical to Ha Long but without the noise. The kayak trip to the lagoons was magical.
Booked the 2D1N option. The cabin was boutique hotel quality. Food was endless—fresh seafood, great vegetarian options. The staff really made an effort to connect with us. Highly recommended for couples.
The bay is stunning. We went in late September and it was still quite humid, but the AC in the cabin worked perfectly. Vung Vieng fishing village was a highlight—very authentic compared to other tourist traps.
The cruise was the best part of our 3-week trip. The limestone karsts are otherworldly. We did the 3-day option which I highly recommend as you get deeper into the bay and have more time to relax. Booking was seamless.
Don't look for the cheapest option, go for the mid-range or luxury. The experience of waking up to that view is priceless. The transfer from Hanoi was comfortable (limo van). A must-do!
Everything you need to know for your journey
Bai Tu Long Bay is located northeast of Ha Long Bay and shares the same geology but is part of a national park that restricts the number of boats. It is significantly quieter, cleaner, and less commercialized than Ha Long Bay.
Most cruises offer a shuttle bus or private car service from the Hanoi Old Quarter. The journey takes about 2.5 to 3 hours via the new expressway to Hon Gai International Harbor.
The best time is from October to April when the weather is cooler and drier. October-November and March-April offer the best balance of temperature and sunlight. Summer (May-September) is hot but good for swimming, though storms can occur.
Yes, all our partner cruises can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and allergy-specific diets. Please inform us at the time of booking.
Yes, most boats offer WiFi in public areas, but the signal can be weak or non-existent when cruising through remote areas of the karst formations. Take it as a chance to disconnect!
Yes, swimming is allowed in designated areas. Most itineraries include stops at calm beaches or lagoons where you can swim and kayak safely.
In the rare event of a typhoon or severe storm (mostly July-August), the Port Authority may cancel cruises for safety. In this case, you will be offered a refund or the option to reschedule.
Yes, families are welcome! Many boats have family cabins. However, parents should keep a close eye on children, especially on the sundeck and during transfers.
